It does appear that we are probably "related"...my grandfather's brother was named "Bernardo" according to the marriage records I have found in Fort Smith, AR.Bernardo died in about 1916, and had a son named "Rufas/Rufus" and a daughter named Mary...as a child I called Rufas/Rufus, Uncle Ben and his sister was Aunt Mary...I never really understood where the "Ben" came from....in the public library in Fort Smith, there is record of a child named "Steve Escalante" who died 7/12/99 and the mother's name listed is Cepriana Escalante, which was Uncle Ben's mother's name....I have just learned from Uncle Ben's children that he (i.e. Uncle Ben) was supposedly a "twin"....which means this child buried in a "Catholic cemetery" somewhere in Sebastian Co. could have been Uncle Ben's twin????Yet in the 1910 census I have, the "Bernardo Escalante" children listed were:a daughter, Leonides, age 16; a son, Bernardo, age 10; a son, Estevan, age 8; and a daughter, Maria, age 6.I never knew Leonides nor Estevan---only Uncle Ben/Bernado and Aunt Mary/Maria.If these are same "relatives" as yours, I am interested in knowing what you may have found which goes back prior to their AR days....i.e. did you find any church records in San Luis Potosi?I would not expect to find much with respect to civil records due to the Mexican revolutions, but in my work with clients for Social Security benefits, the one place where records survived were in the churches.I am interested in knowing if we have a "common thread"...thanks for answering me.
