Wow, I just came across this page a few days ago.Guess I've been living in a box. I've only recently started trying to get relatives to give up information about my Italian heritage.
Esposito seems to be a name found all over.It is my maternal grandmother's maiden name also. She married Domenico Giandomenico who came from Villamagna in the Abbruzzo region. I think the province is Chieti. Supposedly, she came from the same town, but we haven't been able to verify that yet.Giandomenico relatives, who still reside in Villamagna and surrounding area, said they never saw the name of Esposito in Villamagna. So, it would be interesting to try and track where she was actually born. They both, at separate times, made their way to and settled in Reading Pennsylvania. My grandfather worked for the railroad, don't know if my grandmother worked in this country at all.I'm guessing not, since she was very resistant to learning English. They had 12 children, 2 died at birth(don't know what sex they were) and 1 uncle died at age 8.
Anyway, I have been trying for years to get aunts and uncles to let me in on my family geneology, but got a lot of resistance or conflicting stories. An aunt has just recently agreed to send me some stuff and little by little, I'm getting more background. My great-grandfather's name was Domenico Esposito also. There seemed to be lots of Domenico Esposito's on that forum list.
I vaguely remember my great-grandmother. Apparently she passed away when I was maybe 2 or 3.Don't know anything about my great-grandfather, although this aunt may be sending some information. We have been trying to figure out what our great-grandmother's maiden name was, as there seems to be indecision about the spelling of her name.In my grandmother's obit, she is identified as Josephine Balahida. Apparently, this is mispelled and my aunt is not sure how it's spelled.I was wondering if it might be Belaviqua or something like that.Maybe somebody out there might have a good idea what that name might be closest to if she actually was of Italian origin.
