I have ben researching the Essam's for approx 10 years and have connected together a huge family tree(across 8 A3 sheets). The direct line actually goes back as far as a William and John Essam and Hugh is mentioned in John's will as being his nephew, he isn't a son of William so there must have been another brother for whom I have a large question mark on the tree. Unfortunately the records for Wilbarston, which is the earliest connected parish, has 100 years missing in which I think we may have found the parents of Hugh. There are earlier Essam's c1500 and 1600's but nothing that I can connect to the tree or at this stage to each other. One of the earlier Essam's on the tree leaves land in Wing, Rutland in his will and there are Early Essam's in Rutland which is not very far away from Wilbarston but nothing that I can connect as yet.All very difficult with 100 years of missing links.
