My gt.gt. grandfather James Essom (sometimes spelled Essam or Easom) was born circa 1800 in Sibson, Hunts. He married Mary Plant from Nassington, Northants in 1825.Their children that I am aware of to date were:Ann & Susanna (twins), Elizabeth. Joseph, George and William (my gt. grandfather born 1847).
The family lived in Eastfield, then Newark (both now suburbs of Peterborough) before moving to Wellington Lane in the city itself.
My gt. grandfather William married Amy Beaver in 1870.Their children were:William, Mary Anne, John, Joseph George, Harry, Emma and Herbert (my grandfather born in 1879).My grandfather eventually moved away to Gainsborough, Lincs, William moved to live near Newark, Notts and Joseph George moved to the West Midlands but the others I know next to nothing about.
Is anyone else researching the same line?Would love to hear from you.Would also be interested if anyone knows the origins of the name.I have been told it might be Dutch.I know there is a town in Senegal, West Africa called Essom - curious! Look forward to hearing from any Essom family.
