Oh Barbara--I think you are my new bestest friend!!! :)
I descend from a Marsh family which came originally from New England. About the time of the American Revolution, my Marsh family apparently had divided loyalties--like lots of New England families.
There were four brothers in this family--John, Simeon, Solomon, and Thomas. The three younger boys moved down from Connecticut with their mother to North Carolina USA about the time of the Revolution. (I descend directly from both Solomon and Simeon.)
HOWEVER--the oldest brother, whose full name I believe was John Lathrop Marsh, sided with the Royalists. Like many American Royalists, after the war John moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Now this is how our lines just MIGHT tie in--John remained in New Brunswick and married a Canadian girl named SARAH ESTABROOKS. I believe (not altogether certain) that John became a judge in Fredericton??? This of course would be during the late 1700's and early 1800's.
I know of at least one child of John and Sarah Estabrooks Marsh--a son named after his father, John Lathrop Marsh Jr. Just a few years prior to the American Civil War John Marsh Jr. began corresponding with some of his cousins in North Carolina (my line of the Marsh family). Unfortunately, when the Civil War began in 1861 the mail lines were disrupted and contact was lost between the American and Canadian Marsh families.
In fact it wasn't until my aunt Elizabeth started doing some genealogy that I even knew our Marsh ancestors had come south from New England---I figured they had ALWAYS lived in North Carolina I guess!!
Anyway--this sounds exciting since the wife of John L Marsh Sr. was DEFINITELY a member of the Estabrooks family--and I know that John Marsh settled in New Brunswick and raised a family there.
One caveat--I am having to look for a new computer because this one is dying on me--it won't allow me to send or receive emails!!! EXTREMELY frustrating!!!!!!! But I hope to have a new computer soon and my email address is not expected to change.
I would LOVE to be able to tie our families together!!!
