Do you know the maiden name of the wife of Jesse Etheridge below?Per my comments below, I believe she was Julia Brooks.Thanks.
1870 Census – Hardin County, Tennessee, P.O. Savannah, District 13
38/36
Jesse Etheridge, 26, farmer, $800/$600, TN (b. abt. 1844)
Julia Etheridge, 24, keeping house, AL, cannot write (born about 1845/1846)
Francis, 2/12, male, TN
Louisa Brooks, 9, MS (Probably daughter of Charles M. Brooks)
Note:Jesse Etheridge appears to have been the son of Allen Etheridge, a Methodist minister and farmer. The Allen Etheridge family appears in the 1860 census of Savannah, Hardin County, TN, Residence 1409/1409. Jesse was 18.The family appears in the 1850 census of Wayne County, TN at which time Jesse was 8 years of age.A Jesse Etheridge served as a Private in the CSA, 41st Regiment, Tennessee Infantry, Company G.Since he has not been located in subsequent census records, he perhaps died during the war.The wife of Jesse, Julia, could be the oldest daughter of Charles M. Brooks and Caroline Wylie Brooks; however, some researchers note that she “lived with Thomas and Margaret Brooks. She never married and is buried in an unmarked grave in Anderson Cemetery outside Saltillo, Tennessee.”She does not, however, appear in any census records below in the Thomas D. Brooks household.
