Seeking male descendants of John EUSTICE (alternately spelled EUSTIS or EUSTACE) who was christened 21 Mar 1827 in Gwinear parish, Cornwall, England and died 1874, son of Henry EUSTIS and Jane UREN. He married abt 1848 to Catherine PERRY who was christened 27 Jul 1829 in Zennor parish, Cornwall, England. They had:

The EUSTACE Families Association (EFA) was formed in England in 1976 and includes EUSTICE and EUSTIS. See: www.roneustice.com/ (American Chapter) dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/square/ga40/assocn.htm (England Chapter)
In July 2006, the EFA began a project to collect and evaluate Y-chromosome DNA profiles of male namesakes (all spellings) from all over the world. See www.eustice.info/family_research.htm and www.eustice.info/dna_results.htm
As the Y-chromosome and its DNA pass largely unchanged from father to son along with the surname, DNA testing can supplement traditional surname studies and help substantiate or disprove ancestry and relationships. So far, over 110 Eustace-Eustice-Eustis males from 10 countries have been tested.
Among other findings, this DNA study has proved that, because of nearly identical DNA markers, almost all Eustis-Eustace-Eustice namesakes who can trace ancestry to Cornwall, England - regardless of spelling and through very divergent lineages - are descended from a common ancestor.
Traditional genealogical research methods have identified the most recent common ancestor as a John EUSTIS (Ustis/Yestes) born 1624 in Crowan parish, Cornwall, England, son of Richard and Mary.
If the conclusions reached through traditional genealogical research are correct, then the lineage of John EUSTICE (Eustace/Eustis) who married Catherine PERRY also traces back to the aforesaid John EUSTIS born 1624 at Crowan, son of Richard and Mary as follows:
John EUSTICE 1827 (married Catherine PERRY) son of Henry Eustis/Eustice 1776 (married Jane UREN) son of George EUSTIS 1736 (married Rebecca REYNOLDS) son of George EUSTIS 1694 (married Charity BERRIMAN) son of George EUSTIS about 1666 (married ?) son of John EUSTIS 1624 (married Elizabeth) son of Richard (married Mary)
and therefore the Y-Chromosome DNA of all male descendants of John EUSTICE and Catherine PERRY should be expected to also closely match the DNA of other namesakes who descend through other Cornwall lineages. For example, my brother was tested and his DNA indeed matches the prevalent Cornwall DNA and our lineage also traces to the above George 1666, son of John 1624 (but through George's son William, rather than George).
However, the DNA of one of the great grandsons of John EUSTICE and Catherine PERRY was tested and found to be a complete mismatch to the prevalent Cornwall DNA of other proven descendants of John EUSTIS 1624 of Cornwall and a complete mismatch to my brother's DNA - even though they supposedly share common EUSTIS ancestors and the DNA should match.
However, the DNA test proves conclusively that his paternal biological ancestry does not include George 1666 or John EUSTIS 1624, as was previously believed. Perhaps some of the research conclusions concerning the ancestry of John EUSTICE (who married Catherine PERRY) are faulty and there is instead another unrelated Eustis/Eustice family in Cornwall.
However, before discarding any part of the presumed ancestry of this family on the basis of a single DNA test, the DNA of more descendants of this lineage should be tested for comparison. This would rule out the possibility of a paternity issue in the subject's more recent ancestry -there is reason to believe this might be the case. The subject's cousin, another great grandson of John EUSTICE and Catherine PERRY was to have his DNA tested, but either hasn't gotten to it or has changed his mind.
It would be most helpful to have more descendants of this line tested. If you or your relatives are descended through a male line from John EUSTICE and Catherine PERRY, then perhaps one of them would help in this regard. Females and their descendants do not have the EUSTICE Y-chromosome required for this particular DNA test.
Roots Television has many programs about DNA testing - what it is and how it is useful as a supplement to traditional genealogy. You can find and play them here: www.rootstelevision.com/players/player_dna.php
The testing procedure starts with simple, painless swabbing of the inside of the cheek. The swab is then sent to a lab and the testing is done by a lab tech who is also a EUSTIS-EUSTICE-EUSTACE descendant.
If you or your male relatives are willing to be included in this study, I can put you in touch with the representative from the EFA who will discuss the procedure, costs and what consideration might be possible if costs are an issue.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to help us help you determine your actual, true Eustis-Eustice-Eustace ancestry.
