Hi Helen
I am enjoying Eustis, Florida, but grew up in Rangeley, Maine - dad was a Dixfield Eustis - grew up in big house built by Charles Wallace Eustis, his uncle and nephew of Charles Lyman Eustis. To keep them clear inour minds we always called them Uncle Wallace and Uncle Lyman.Uncle Lyman (was partner in company that)owned townships almost adjacent to Rangeley.Eustis township contains village of Stratton as well as areas called Eustis and Eustis Ridge - really close to Carrabassett Valley and Sugarloaf USA (great ski area). BUT Saddleback at Rangeley, in my estimation, is better skiing - more natural snow, less crowded ...Anyway, we understand Uncle Lyman and wife are buried in Beaufort SC-probably died there. They lived all over - Dixfield, Auburn, NH, Mass., Beaufort. They used to visit our family on trips back to Maine.Photos can (or used to could) be viewed inside Canadian border crossing station, American side (returning from Canada, at Coburn Gore, near Eustis, Maine. Also roadside bronze plaque has likeness of Uncle Charles Lyman ...All you say is true. The twins were jewellers in Minneapolis area.Jean Eustis' husband, Richard, was descendant of Tobias Eustis and may have confused Uncles Wallace and Lyman - they were contemporaries-Warner Eustis' books are, however, also correct. They likewise identify Beaufort SC as Lyman's final resting place.I rarely revisit this old haunt-direct email comes to me as of Aug 2008 at deustis@comcast.net-I do a lot of "genealogy"mostly on female lines as Eustis family (ours) is extensively researched and written up.
