Wesley Everest, murdered 1919, Centralia, Washington
From a website about the International Workers of the World (IWW - aka Wobblies), an early 20th century workers' union.
---------------------
Vigilante mobs attacked the IWW in many places, including Centralia, Washington on November 11, 1919.
IWW member and army veteran Wesley Everest was turned over to the lynch mob by the jail guards, first had his teeth smashed with a rifle butt, was castrated, lynched three times in three separate locations, and then his corpse was riddled with bullets before it was disposed of in an unmarked grave. The official coroner's report listed the victim's cause of death as "suicide."
----------------------
There is no mention on this forum of Wesley Everest, who must have been born in the 1890's. Where did he serve in World War I and who were his parents? Did he have any children, or brothers or sisters?
Does anyone posting here know where Wesley Everest fits on the North American family tree? Because of his gruesome end, are there any family stories going back 2 or 3 generations about his involvement in the union movement?
