I’m sorry I’m a little slow in getting back to you.I would like to thank you very much for the information you sent me.I hate to say this after all your work, but I do have access to the 1819 Mecklenburg-Schwerin Census, as I subscribe to Ancestry .com.
I was hoping to find someone who might have information where Carl F. Evers lived before he came to the U.S.A. in 1853.Where he married Elizabeth Schulz and where she came from and where their daughter Bertha was born.
Who were August Evers parents, and who were the Evers of Insel Poel and where did they originally come from?I say this as I’ve been told that Evers is Swedish and was shortened from Eiversen. This is given some credence by the fact that Insel Poel was under Swedish control from about 1635 until 1903.August Evers was born on 11 March 1773 in Seedorf on Insel Poel during the Swedish occupation of the Island.
Using the 1819 Mecklenburg- Schwerin Census, I looked up each of the villages on Insel Poel to see if I could find a clue as to whom August’s parents were.In doing so I found out the in 1819 there were 49 people with the name Evers living on a 15 square mile island that had a total population of less than 3000 people. To me it seems unusual to have that many people on such a small German island with the same Swedish family name.
I’d like to know how they came to be there and why, where the came from and how the relate to August Evers. While most of the occupations, I have been un able to translate, I was able to figure that a couple of the females were prostitutes.I guess not a very good reflection on the family name.
Ava by your last name I take it that you are of German ancestry.Do you speak German?I would like to find out the translation of Holzwäter, Jagerbusch and Schumacherbursche. They are not in my English- German Dictionary.
