The "History of Leeds, Maine" says of the Additons, "Among the early familes of Duxbury, Mass., was that of Arddaton (now Additon), which probably came from England prior to 1640.All through the residence in Duxbury the original spelling of the name continues, as Thomas of the Revolution (father of the Thomas born March 2, 1763, who became an early settler of Leeds) used this orthography."(Stinchfield 1843, 172)
Earlier genealogists claimed he married Mary Teague on April 23, 1723 in Pembroke, Plymouth, MA or Boston, Suffolk, MA.A review of the records show that the marriage intention gives the name of "Samuel Atherton" while the marriage record gives the name "Samuel Everton."Samuel Everton was married by Dr. Cotton Mather to Mary Teague on Apr 17, 1723 in Boston, Suffolk, MA. (Mary Teague was also known as Mary Tague.)There can only be two conclusions: Either Samuel Additon was confused with Samuel Everton and was never married to Mary Teague, or Samuel Additon and Samuel Everton are the same man.
