William is my 5th Great Grandfather. His place of birth is unknown, and everyone we've talked to has hit the same brick wall finding info further back than his marriage to Eleanor Thompson. They married about 1760 at the Upper West Conococheague Presbyterian Church near Chambersburg, Franklin Co., PA.Sometime shortly thereafter, they moved to Conemaugh Twp., Indiana Co., PA.William died about 1774 and is buried in Ebenezer Cemetery in present-day Lewisville, PA; first burial in that cemetery. His wife is believed to be buried there also.It has been reported that he was in the Grenadier Guards and came to America ~1747 with the British Army.A cousin made the trip to the National Archives in Kew, England a couple of years ago but was unable to find any records for the Guard during the years he would have served that might have shed more light on his family and birthplace.
Also, through my dad's participation in the Ewing Y-DNA project, we know that we are related (2 or 3 generations back from William) to the Ewing's who immigrated from Ireland to Cecil Co., MD though we do know exactly how.
