The following is from the book SEVENTEENTH CENTURY ISLE OF WIGHT, by Doddie, the chapter on the Exums, pages 453 & 454.Indicates a Sarah Exum, daughter of William & wife Sussanah or Susan Exum married Thomas Mials.Evidently you found someone's will that indicates other wise. A post elsewhere on this forum I believe I saw post #345 indicating a Sarah Exum dau. of a John Exum married Thomas Mials.
2. William Exum was born in Virginia as he was not shown among the headrights of his father as was his brother Francis. He witnessed a deed of John Portis and Jane his wife to John Brett, April 8, 1696 (Book 1, p. 199). His wife was Sussanah or Susan, last name unknown. As the widow of William Exum she joined in a deed of her son John on August 19, 1720, and released her dower right. Children: 3. I. John, m. Elizabeth. II. William, m. Patience Purcell, daughter of Arthur Purcell and mentioned as his daughter in his will, July, 1745 (Book 5, p. 3). William Exum made his will in Southampton Co. Va. 1756 (Book 1, p. 210). Children:1. Joseph; 2. Barnaby; 3. William; 4. Moses; 5. Michael; 6. Elijah; 7. Mary;8. Arthur; 9. Sarah; 10. Purcell;11. Parnell Roper. III. Joseph, in. Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, relict of Joseph Jones and dau. of William Kinchen. IV. Robert, died in Southampton County, made his will (Book 5, p. 469). V. Ann, m. ____Williamson. She made her will March 14, 1752 (Book 6, P. 32). Names all of her brothers, sisters, Cozens Ann Westray and Sarah Atkinson. VI. Sarah, m. Thomas Mials.
