LOWELL -- Henry J. Eyres Jr., of Lowell, age 89, died Monday, May 3, 2010, in Lowell after a brief illness. A World War II Army Veteran.
Born in Lowell, son of the late Henry J. Sr. and Helena (Coughlin) Eyres. He received his early education at the Bartlett School and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1940.
Henry enlisted in the army on November 12, 1942 at Fort Devens. He served as an MP with the 1124th Military Police Company overseas for 31 months, in New Zealand, Australia, New Guinea, Biak and Netherland East Indies. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 27, 1945. Returning home he became affiliated with the Billerica House of Correction as a Corrections Officer for over 45 years, retiring in 1985.
Surviving are his nieces, Elizabeth "Beth" Eyres Webster and her husband Bruce of New York City and Martha Eyres McArdle and her husband David of Lowell. Two grandnieces, Alison Eyres McArdle of Boston, and Julie Bradley McArdle of Lowell. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Eyres of Lowell, and Robin G. Dejadon of Lowell the daughter of his longtime companion. He was the brother of the late Robert E. Eyres.
