I am interested in finding out information about the history of the name Faber and if anyone else has seen such changes in it.
My first listing is Hugo de la Faber in 730 in Normandy France. Some time between 1120 and 1170 the name changed to FABER only. Then again a change, sometime between 1300 and 1320 the name changed to Le Smythe. The years 1450 and 1500 brought another change to Smyth. The next thirty years have it going from Smyth to Smith. Which brings us to my grandmothers era of her birth in the 1920's.
The family moved from Normandy to England to Barbados to the States. One main personage is 1st Landgrave Thomas Smith of NC. It is said they left England due to religious reasons, one being they were Quakers. The shipping industry plays a large part in our history as well.
