Don, Although I've no conclusive evidence that the following belong to Patrick Playfair FAIRBAIRN, son of the Rev Patrick FAIRBAIRN and Mary PLAYFAIR, they may well might
1881 census at Lochryan Manse, Inch, Wigtonshire in hsehold of John & Helen K McGUFFIE, John being the Minister of Lochryan Parish Niece and nephew Mary (13) and Patrick (12) FAIRBAIRN, both b British Guiana 1906 census in Manitoba, Canada, a married Patrick FAIRBAIRN, occupation "general" (I think), aged 37, head (no others in hsehold), married, emigrated 1904 born British Guiana 1907 arriving in UK on "La Plata" at Southampton, boarded at Barbados: Patrick C (born Scotland) & Olivia (born Demerara) FAIRBAIRN with Masters Alec, Harold and Norman. (no ages given)
1954 arriving UK on the "City of Durban", having boarded at Cape Town: Norman FAIRBAIRN sugar technologist aged 54; Mrs Marion FAIRBAIRN aged 53 housewife; UK address was given as Bank View, Leonards Rd, Forres, last and future permanent residence fields were "Scotland" In 1948 a 48 yr old Norman G FAIRBAIRN sugar technologist arrived back in the UK giving the same UK address, but last permanent residence was India, future residence Scotland
Likewise there's a "Med. Pract." Harold FAIRBAIRN born 12 Nov 1898 and wife Grace J arriving on British Passports for a 4 month vacation from Sth Africa. Other records indicate they were in Tanganyika for some time. Don't seem to have squirrelled away anything on "Master Alec".
I'm not related, just interested in possible candidates for the FAIRBAIRN Surname DNA project, and would definitely like a representative of the family of John FAIRBAIRN and Jessie JOHNSTONE, parents of the Rev. Patrick F. (1805-1874) Regards Lorna http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/fairbairn/http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/fairbairn/
