Aug. 2006 we posted a message looking for the arents of William E. Fairclough, born in Canada in 1889.We have since found record of his birth in Boston on 14 Nov 1889 -- his parents were David L. Fairclough, born in Prince Edward Island and his mother Honora E. Hourihan Fairclough, born in Ireland. The interesting learning experience we had was that neither the City of Boston nor the State of Massachusetts could find his birth in the Registry of births. But we looked at a copy of the registry they have and found him.We found it because when we visited Salt Lake City we went to their Family History Library in Temple Square and looked it up ourselves on microfilm.Boston and Mass. Archives might have found it themselves if I'd asked for the record of any male Fairclough child born in 1889 in Boston. So we learned 2 things: (1) If a person's birth can't be found using given as well as surname, ask for the birth record by surname only in requests to the city and state archives, and (2) sometimes it's better to look the information up ourselves; we care more about the results of the research because it's our family.
Anyway, we just this week found the registry which lists the marriage certificate for David and Nora, who were married in Boston in 1889, so are now hoping when we request this document from the Mass. Archives using the certificate number that certificate will have their parents' names on it.Also, the registry is smudged on the line with David and Nora's names on it and we can't tell their ages for sure (22 yrs. old each or 32 yrs. old each). The ages both look 10 years younger than other documents we have which we believe are records of Nora's life before she met and married David, and so we still for this reason want to see the marriage certificate.
Anyway, if you have a David Fairclough born on Prince Edward Island about 1857 - 1867, please contact us.
