Chestnut Square Historical Park, located near the heart of Downtown McKinney, is home to the oldest house in Collin County, Texas; the John Faires House.
A Faires Family Reunion is in the works for this year.It will be used to kick-start renovations for the 150 year-old structure.Much debate has surrounded the Faires House as to what date it was actually built and exactly what type of renovations should be undertaken.
We felt it only right to ask family descendants their thoughts on some of the decisions to be made.As a rule, the structure of the Faires House is sound.Air-conditioning has been added and that helps prevent deterioration caused by humidity issues and heat/cool extremes.
Some of the decisions to be made require further research into the home's history. One newspaper article recently uncovered from the 1930s, quotes J. J. Faires as saying the house was built in 1855.
For this year's reunion, we want the family descendants to meet one another, share information if possible, and give input on key issues.I am hoping to take orders for copies of old family photos for purchase as well.
The date and time is, Sunday, November 7th in conjunction with our flag dedication ceremonies for Veterans' Day.Approximately from 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
