My wife is descended from George Fairweather and Agnes Langlands-through their daughter Martha, who married William Sturrock in Guthrie, Angus, on 22 September, 1816.
I have been unable so far to trace George Fairweather any further back. I have had some successs with Agnes Langlands, however.
She is in the 1841 Census for Guthrie (Ref. 292/1/13), living with her son in law, William Sturrock and his family. They are at Bents (presumably Turin Bents), Guthrie. Agnes was said to be independent, 83 years old and born in the County of Angus.
If the Old Parish Register of marriages for Forfar is examined for the marriage of George Fairweather to Agnes Langlands, then the following information is given-
June 9, 1781
George Fairweather, servant to John Dair in Parish of Rescobie, and Agnes Langlands, daughter to Alexander Langlands in Carseburn.
Alexander Langlands was a weaver married to Katharine Cuthbert (they married in Rescobie on 31 May, 1755 and again in Forfar on 1 June, 1755). They had several children-eg.29 April, 1765- Alexander Langlands, weaver in Carsburn and Katherine Cuthbert had twins baptised, one of them being called Katharine and the other Martha born upon Sunday the 28th Current. Agnes's birth was not registered but must have been about 1758.
