I'm looking for information on the parents of John Fulknier of Monroe Co. Va (now WV). He was born circa 1792. This spelling seems to be peculiar to Monroe Co. Monroe became a county in 1799 so it's possible he may have been from Greenbrier Co.
The following were residents of Greenbrier Co. from 1796 to 1799 (from property tax lists) : Jacob 1796-1799 (Fulkinear, Fulkner) Henry 1797-1799 (Falkner) Daniel 1797 (Falkner)
In 1799 Monroe Co. was formed from Greenbrier. The tax records there show: Jacob 1799-1802 (Falkner, Fulkinear, Fuleanner Henry 1803-1805 (Fulkenier)
There are no persons of any of these spellings in Monroe Co fron 1806- 1813.
There is supposedly a court record for John in 1811, but I haven't verified this.
John is first listed on the tax rolls in 1813, and assuming he was 21, that makes his birth date 1792.
In 1815 he married Jane Sams. They had 8 children: William, (1816) Madison, (1817) John, (1818) James, (1822) Margaret Jane, (1824) Samuel, (1821) Daniel, (1827) Andrew Anderson Fulknier, (June 1829)
Andrew named one of his sons James Anderson, so this may be a family name somewhere down the line.I have found a marriage record in Frederick Co. VA for a Henry Faulkner who married a Martha Anderson on 6 Sept 1787, which would be about the right time frame. I have been unable to find further info on these people.
Does anyone have any information on any of the families mentioned here. I have been up against a brick wall for the paast 10 years or so. My aunt also searched for at least 20 years before I started.
