The Rev Alexander Falconer ofEddrachillis, father of Johanna who married Clarke of Eriboll, had twelve children in all, one of them, Mary, my ancestor.I have seen the grave of Johanna and her husband in the churchyard at Durness.
The Rev. Alexander contributed an account of the life and economy of Eddrachillis to the Scottish Statistical Account of (I think) 1776.The Eddrachillis manse is now the Eddrachillis Hotel in a spectacular setting overlooking Badcall Bay.
I don’t know where Alexander Falconer came from, but it sticks in my mind(source unknown and perhaps inaccurate) that he was a graduate of Aberdeen University. However, according to the research of my mother, who died in 1977, his wife was Mary MacIntosh, sister of George (whose son Charles invented the raincoat of that ilk) , their father being Lachlan MacIntosh of Prouncy and Achinduich, and their mother Barbara the daughter of Rev. John MacPherson of Farr (born 1656, died 1726)and Miss Sinclair of Southdun.
