I have responded to Richard Purkey on this Fallis family forum and wanted to ask you some of the same questions.
I live in Sylvania, Lucas County, Ohio.I am researching the home that James and Elizabeth Fallis lived in and then that Linton and Helen Fallis moved in after James Fallis died. The home is located at 5362 S. Main Street in Sylvania.
Records indicate that the Lathrop family lived in the home from 1847 until 1887 and prior to the Civil War allowed runaway slaves to hide in the basement until it was safe to move on.(Underground Railroad).
There was a concealed room in the basement and the only access to the room was through an oven that was built into the wall.Had you ever heard about this? What is your relationship to the Fallis family?
Linton Fallis died in 1963 and according to his obituary notice the only survivors were his wife Helen and his son Edward Hengerer, Jr., of Buffalo and sister Mrs. Martha Fallis Oliver of New York City.
Who is Edward Hengerer, Jr. of Buffalo?
After Linton's wife died who got all her personal belongings?Do you know anything about Mrs. Martha Fallis Oliver of New York City?Anybody I can contact?
Do you have any information regarding Linton's son Harry David Fallis who was born in 8-17-1918?
I need help on any leads regarding living Fallis family members that I can talk to about the story regarding the ovens in the basement of the home, or the concealed room in the basement.
In the 1930's when Linton Fallis moved into the home he had all of this removed from the basement. The Northwest Ohio Historical Society wrote about this in an article in 1939.
Do you know anything that would help in the research?Anybody I can contact?
