I have a ROACH - FARISH connection also, in Caroline County, Virginia. I'm researching a FARISH graveyard, called "Meadow Hill Cemetery", and had a single ROACH tombstone. After some digging, I have finally linked her to the FARISH family. Here is what I know:
In memeory of Mollie E. ROACH 1858 - 1938 At rest
I believe this woman to be Mary "Mollie" E. ROACH, born 1858, who never married. She lived all her life in Caroline, according to census records, but on the 1880 and 1900 censuses, declared her birthplace as Texas! Weird!
Mollie is reputed to be the daughter of Alice D. FARISH and James T. ROACH, though I have never found a supporting document. Her parents never appear on a census with her. If correct, then Mollie's Grandparents were George Buckner FARISH and Clementine DILLARD. Mollie is living with the widow Clementina FARISH as a one year old in 1860, Guinney's Depot, Caroline Co., VA census, and in 1870, as a 10 year old, living with Clementine FARISH and her son, Wm. P. T. FARISH. She lived with her FARISH aunts and uncles through adulthood.
The 1860 Anderson Texas census was very intriguing, since there were ROACH and FARISH's enumerated, born in Virginia. Also, these people could be "double counted", since the 1860 Caroline County census and the 1860 Anderson County census were six months apart. Your thoughts?
Do you have a copy of the FARISH-ROACH marriage in 1850? I live in Frederickburg, VA, and have access to Caroline and Orange Co. records.
