The parents of James B. Farley appear to be Peter Farley, b. Ireland and Sarah Bird, b. New Jersey. Here is how I came to that conclusion.

In the 1900 U.S. census, NJ,the birth date for James Farley is given as Jan 1852, NJ.In the 1880, 1900 and 1910 census the birth place for both of his parents is given as NJ.HOWEVER, in the 1920 census the birth place of his father is shown as Ireland and his mother as NJ.

In 1860 I found Deborah E. Grant living with her parents in Egg Harbor township, Burlington Co. NJ.Also living in Egg Harbor township was James Farley, age 8 years. He was living in the household of Peter and Sarah Farley, Peter b. Ireland, Sarah b. NJ.

But the strongest link can be found in the Farley burials in Greenwood Cemetery, Ocean County NJ.Here is the link to Findagrave where the Farley burials can be found:

Choose Search for Cemetery, enter Greenwood, New Jersey, Ocean County.Notice how close the cemetery is to Egg Harbor township.James and Deborah Farley were still living there in 1880 before moving to Newark.Fill in the name Farley to get all the listings.

There is a Florence M. Farley, listed as daughter of James and Deborah Farley.Florence died before she was 1 year old. Also buried in the cemetery are Peter Farley, b. 1817, and Sarah (Bird) Farley, b. 1827.

It would be nice to have birth and death certificates but I did not find any online. However, I believe these Greenwood Cemetery burials provide a strong link between James B. Farley and Peter and Sarah (Bird) Farley.
