I posted this earlier for the benefit of Earline Picone but I thought you might be interested too. I am a descendant of Savenia Sonnier and James Hamilton Jackson both pioneer families of the Toomey/Vinton, LA area. I have done alot of research on these early settlers.
This posting refers to the confusion about the two John Cormier's of the Vinton/Toomey, LA area. They were first cousins. The John L. Cormier who was the son of Alexandre Cormier and Susanne Celanie Ledoux married Mary Berry the daughter of George Washington Berry and Caroline Moore. The John Cormier who was the son of Onesime Cormier and Marguerite Arthemise Melancon married Marie Renna Farque/Faulk daughter of Jean Farque/Faulk and Elizabeth Moore. I have based my conclusions on the census records and the obituaries that I have read in the American Press.
My earlier posting to Earline Picone: I have recently read several of the American Press obits for the children of John Cormier and Marie Renna Faulk/Farque. I found Jake, Joseph Delman, Ogese, and Peter S. Cormier's obits.
The obit of August/Ogese Cormier says he was of a pioneer family of the Vinton, LA area. The only pioneer Cormier's of the Toomey/Vinton area are Alexandre and Onesime Cormier who were brothers. Onesime Cormier had a son Jean Baptiste Adam Cormier who fits the age to be the husband of Marie Renna Farque/Faulk. The Farque/Faulk's were not a pioneer family of the area therefore it has to be the Cormier family. The WWI draft card of Arthur Cormier (brother of Ogese) says he was born in Vinton, LA. Joseph Delman Cormier (brother of Ogese) is the next door neighbor of his uncle, Jackson Cormier (son of Onesime Cormier), in the 1910 Calcasieu Parish, LA census record. The circumstantial evidence appears to support my conclusions. Also, John Cormier had a son named John Adam Cormier.
