Farren/Devine
(Crossposting from Devine Forum)
Yesterday, at the Alameda Flea Market, I bought an old bible with a large amount of information regarding the Devine family in the form of some old newspaper clippings. The bible is inscribed Martha J. Devine, 1888, which is the date of her (Martha J. Farren)'s marriage to James P. Devine in San Francisco on May 30, 1888. There is a LOT of handwritten info on the Farren line, including an original marriage certificate for John Farren and Martha Poole from March 12, 1847 from the 6th St. Baptist Church in NYC.I have been trying to track down people who might be interested in acquiring it.
After researching this a bit, I believe that this is what we are looking at:
Farren:
John Farren, b. April 27, 1827 m. Martha Poole April 17, 1834
Martha J Farren b. Nov. 5 1862 m. James P. Devine
no children
Thomas Devine b. 1828 Ireland m. Elizabeth unknown b. 1829 Ireland
Mark A. Devine b. 1857 California m. Emma Beretta b. 1871
James G. Devine b. April 1895 m. Claire L
James H. b. 1921
James P. Devine, who married Martha Farren, is the brother of Mark A. Devine, above. I believe that when Martha died (they had no children) the bible probably passed to one of the children of Mark A. Devine, who are listed as nephews of James P. Devine in one of the newspaper clippings. I hope that's clear.
I buy old bibles with the intent of trying to reunite them with their families. If anyone is interested, please contact me.
