Barbour Couny, Ala

By genealogy.com user July 31, 2000 at 06:33:21

I am reading a book called "Memories of
Childhood's Slavery Days" by Annie L. Burton. It is posted on a site run by the
Univ of North Carolina called Documenting the American South.

Annie was a child born and raised on the Farrior plantation in Barbour County.

She and her mother were owned by Wm. M.
Farrior, died 1888 age 70 years old, and
Sarah Anne Farrior, died 1883, age 57 years.

The Farriors are buried in the Farrior Family cemetery east of Clayton.

She said her father was a white plantation
owner from England and that Mrs. Farrior
used to confront him when he would pass by
on owning up to his responsibilities for
having a child and he would hurry past. He
was from Liverpool and died in Lewisville
in 1875.

Does anyone know his name?

If anyone is interested she writes of day to day life on the plantation with the Farrior
family.
