While I'm at it, I came across while surfing some Civil War documents, a George A Faunce in the USN, who served around the New Orleans area, and a Peter Faunce in the Red River area.
A Capt. John Faunce on the Harriet Lane, was a witness to the bombarment of Fort Sumter, that started the war. And, he was involved in some minor fights along the East coast, as part of the USA blockcade. He was relieved of command, and later the Harriet Lane was captured by the CSA, the Capt. that replaced him was killed during its capture.Capt. John Faunce would later have a Coast Guard vessel named after him.
I do not know of these men, exept for the above, and if any one has addition info, I would love to hear about it.
