Years ago I went to the Masonic Temple to see the portrait, however, at that time it was in storage for renovations to the temple. My mother's name is Betsy Fauntleroy, and I have heard about "The Lowland Beauty" all my life. I know that Geo. Washington proposed to her, but was turned down. But that doesn't really answer your question as to why the portrait is there. The temple used to have in stock a small blue paperback book with some information about the portrait. Reading your inquiry prompted me to call, and I am advised it is no longer available. I may be able to find my copy, and, if so, I will let you know.
