Are you sure we came from the UK? John Favill may have sailed from England but I am still not convinced that he or his ancestors were English. I have found that FAVILLE is an Italian word meaning SPARKS. Also, I am not aware of any truly English names that ends with a vowel, as most of us spell it now. I think John dropped the E because it would give him a better chance of getting to America through England.(Cabott started as Cabotte, an Italian name.) It looks like the E was added in America about the 3rd generation. (French people seem to think Faville is French.) Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
