Tracey-
I shall try my best to help.First, know that there are at least three veins of Favres in the United States. One went to Mississippi/Louisiana region, one went to the Great Lakes region, and I'm just now discovering the third vein, and I really haven't had a chance to really pin it down where exactly they are from.My vein is from the Great Lakes, and we are German.SO, not much help to you, as your Favre clan, as I understand it, are French. My brother was convinced we are related to Brett Favre, but after 10 years of research, NOPE.LOLAnd that's okay!
How he is related to you through marriage, well, first you have to start with you, your parents, grandparents.I'm not trying to talk down to you, promise, I'm just stating it as if you are new to this hobby of genealogy.Write down the birth dates/places, death dates/places, marriage dates/places for everyone, including the children and their spouses.A good genealogy program can be picked up about anywhere to help you stay organized.Maiden names are very important to this hobby, so don't forget them.
I don't know too much about Brett Favre's ancestry, but I'm pretty sure that you can look up at Genealogy.com and look up celebrity trees, and that can show you, if you really know your ancestry, where the match is. But, if you dont' know, you're going to have to do some research on your family first. The first two websites I recommend you turning to first- cyndislist.com because she is a reputable genealogist and can pretty much answer any question you have in regard to genealogy. The second, go to your local library and see if you can pick it up on their website for free, if not, it has a subscription, to- heritagequestonline.comThis website has actual scanned census reports that you can find by last name, etc.It has helped me out a great deal.
Also, this may be of help- go to Rootsweb.com and go to the Social Security Death Index and see if Dorothy Rice is on there- Social Security Numbers are public record after death, and are red flagged at the time of death for identity theft issues. This could tell you something- if she is on that index, you can order what is called an SS#5 and she will have her maiden name plus her parents names listed (it was required).I would try and look for her marriage cert and that should also have her maiden name on it.You can't go much further than that until you have her maiden name.
I'm not sure I understand where you are coming from on Eileen Hoch and Patricia Hoffman, are these your great grandmother's daughters?
My next question to you, what line are you looking for specifically, and for reasons of safety, who in that line died last?(Example, my grandparents are deceased).Always, always post the deceased, none who are alive, there are people watching these boards for identity theft. It amazes me how little you can give, and voila, someone's in a world of trouble.Anyway, let me know who you are looking for in that specific line-
Grandpa Joe Smith
Birthdate/place
Deathdate/place
Grandma Josephine __________ (maiden blank at this time)
Birthdate/place
Deathdate/place
Dates and places are important, otherwise, the search is going to be hard.A round about date would work as well, because way back when they used to guess sometimes, making this more fun to research!Let me know and I'll see what I can try and dig up for you.
