Thomas Fawcett was born into a family from Kings Co (Offaly) Ireland - Thomas Fawcett (or Fossitt) and Catherine Lyon. I think the whole family emigrated to Ontario in 1861. In about 1868 he married Mary Lenfesty - her people came from Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
There is a photo of them which you can find by searching for the National Library of New Zealand, then going into their Timeframes section and searching under "Mr & Mrs Thomas Fawcett". He has great sideburns! Taken in Strathroy, Ont. 1868, I think it must be their wedding photo. It came from my father's grandmother who was Thomas's cousin. She and her husband and children emigrated to New Zealand c1880. There are other photos of her siblings at the same website.
He and Mary and some of their children are in the 1881 Canadian census at Strathroy, but our family tree says he is living in "Monteray, North Carolina" which I now know means Mt Airy. That tree was made in the early 1900s.
I have more information about Fossitt/Fawcett family in the Offaly/Laois (Kings & Queens counties) area of Ireland and some of their descendants who are scattered around the world.
