I am Warren Douglas Feakes from Canberra Australia.I have some connections compiled by a relative in Perth Western Australia that might build the picture. Her research shows the following lineage to my generation of Feakes'.
Thomas Fakes married Anne Mortimers 1634, Rongay?, Holy Trinity, Suffolk - issues 1636 to 16xx -Thomas, Anne, Elizabeth, Hester, Robert, Richard.First four children registered in St James, Bury St Edmunds - does anybody have any further ideas on the last two boys, Robert and Richard
(there is a possible further back connection to Robert Feake {m. Jones} at Carlton Suffolk and a daughter Agnes, dob 5/12/1585)
Robert Feaks (Feaks, Feacks) married Sarah Swan 10 October 1677 St James, Bury St Edmunds Suffolk. -issues 1678 to 1695 - Robert, Thomas, Sarah, Esther, John, Anne, Richard, William.(I havemarriage details for some of these)
Robert Fakes (Feaks, Feakes) married Anne? possibly around 1708.Issues from 1709 to 1722 were John, William, Anne, George, Richard and Sarah. All regd Bury St Edmunds St James.
Richard Feaks, 1718 to 1794, married Alice Matlock (christened ~1717 - buried 19 Jul 1795). Issues from 1750 to 1769 - Deborah, Richard, Elizabeth, Martha, Robert. All again in St James, Bury St Edmunds.
Richard Fakes (b.1751-d.1826) married Elizabeth Bray or Henrietta Bray (records confusing)
If Elizabeth, issues are Charles in 1799 and Robert in 1802 both registered in Great Barton. If Henrietta, issues are, Richard 1791, James 1795, Martha 1796, Elizabeth 1803,
Robert 1805 and William 1809. Interestingly, registrations are Bury St Edmunds for Richard then later 5 children at Great Barton - does this indicate a move of address from one parish to the next or the opening of a registry branch at Great Barton due to population demands??I think it could just be a records thing!
James Fakes (Feakes, Feake)-(described as both labourer and husbandman)1795 to ? twice married:
First to Elizabeth Parsons or Pearsons(died 1826, age 28yrs) m.1820.Issues were - Mary 1821, James 1824, and John 1826. (all records from Bishops Transcripts Gt Barton Suffolk)
Second was to Mary Fisher (b.1793) in October 1828. Issues were William 1830 and Charles 1832. Also possibly Elizabeth 1835 and Maria 1838.
James Fakes (Feakes)1824 to ? married twice
First to Esther (Ester) Calver 1824 to 1857. Ester's father is described as a shepherd.Issues were Mary 1851, John, 1852 and Harry in 1856.
Second to Martha Pawsey, 1834 to ?.Her father is described as a labourer from Great Barton. Her mother was Mary Anne Nunn, also from Gt Barton.
Issues were George 28 September 1859 - MY GRANDFATHER - James 1861, Daniel 1863, Sarahann 1869 and Frank 1874.
My Grandfather George Feakes (Fakes)1859 to 10 June 1944 was described as a milkman, Livery Stable keeper, Horse trainer, Cobb and Co Driver, Horse drawn Taxi driver in London (London Bridge circuit)and finally, Ringleader for Elders Smith and Co - Perth Western Australia. He was married twice.
First to Mary Anne Morris.I have no detail of this marriage except that Mary seems to have been 13 or 14 years old and they had six children.Registration detail for the one I have knowledge of is Fredrick George Feakes b.13 December 1884 and registered in Brixton, Lambeth, Surry.
George and son Fredrick emigrated to Australia about 1889.
Second marriage was in Australia to Florence Louise Crews from Mt Barker South Australia in 1890 something.George was a Stage Coach driver for the famous Cobb and Co and Florence's family (and I believe Florence) were German immigrants to Australia and the owners of the South Australian branch of the Company.
Issues were Gladys 1899, Marjorie 1901, Linda 1903, Letucia 1913 and MY FATHER Collins George Feakes 20 September 1920.
I was born in Sydney Australia 11th July 1948 and have two younger brothers and a younger sister.
Any help that can be given to dispute links or fill in gaps I will welcome.I also have some connecting records and will answer any questions I can.
