Hi Derek, Thank you for the response and information. My wife and I have been to Norway.I made my first trip with a Norweigan Naval officer in 1979 ( I was not married then). We went first to Bergen then to his parents in Namsos then went all the way to Hammerfest on the "Speedy Window" ferry and back to Oslo by rail. In 2000 my wife and I completed the Birkebeiner Rennet and my wife gave more than a few Norweigan skiers a shock by doing very well in the Inga Lami 30km womens'race. Our primary sport is Nordic Skiing which is strange for Australians.I am also an instructor in nordic and telemark techniques and we both work in the Australian snowfields in Winter. We depart Australia in a couple of weeks to compete in Marathon loppet races in France and Switzerland.
I may leave the detailed family research until I visit UK next but if you have any easily accessible detail on Susan Swan, Alice Matlock or Henrietta Bray, I would appreciate knowing.
My wife is family 'Wohlfarht' from Sweden and has a well reseached family history originating in Goteborg (Gothenburg?) with a German imported master coppersmith, resposible for the German church roof, in 1650.This is not so far from you I think.(250km ?).By accident I came across a post in the 'Wohlfahrt' (Sweden) section of this site, done by my wife's relative, Monica Wohlfahrt - the family historian, who resides in Broma, Stockholm. We have regular contact with this family and have completed the Vasaloppet twice.I have an english translation of the family Wohlfahrt history but would not dare to post it publicly as it belongs to Monica.Suffice to say, in the great Swedish migration of the late 1800's they spread to all corners of the globe.
