Hello distant cousin! I'm Dave Feakes from Ipswich, Suffolk, England.
I have only just seen your message on this site and must tell you that the Feakes line you have posted, includes my forebears too.
I had got my research back to the marriage of Robert Feaks to Sarah Swann at St James, Bury St Edmunds 10 October 1677 but had no idea of the Thomas Fakes link.
The parish you show as Rongay is actually Bungay in Suffolk and I have today looked at the parish register transcripts for Holy Trinity, Bungay and have come up with the following which may be of interest to you:
Thomas Fakes married Alice Gunnell 01-07-1628 Alles, daughter of Thomas Feates baptised 30-08-1629 Alice Feakes wife of Thomas buried 13-07-1634 Thomas Feakes widower married An Mortimer single woman 02-11-1634 Elizabeth Feakes single woman (possible sister of Thomas) married John Kinge single man 07-06-1636 Alice Feakes daughter of Thomas buried 11-02-1638
This seems to indicate that An/Anne Mortimer was the second wife of Thomas. I could find no baptism record of Thomas at Bungay but confess I didn't check on either Alice Gunnell or An/Anne Mortimer.
Checking the transcripts for Bury St Edmunds St James I can confirm the following:- Thomas baptised 10-04-1636 son of Thomas and Anne Anne baptised 15-04-1640 daughter of Thomas and Anne Elizabeth baptised 26-02-1642 daughter of Thomas Hester baptised 05-04-1646 daughter of Thomas and Anne.
I have been unable to trace the baptisms of either Robert (he's the one I'm after!!!) or Richard. It may be they were baptised in one of the surrounding parishes but have had no time to check today.
Something which is intriguing appears in the burial transcripts for Bungay Holy Trinity :-
Thomas Feakes buried 23-10-1663 Thomas Feakes' wife buried 26-10-1663.
In respect of the possible connection to Robert Feake [m.Jones] at Carlton Suffolk. There are two Carltons in the county and I would imagine, based on the geographical positioning that the most likely would be Carlton Colville which is North East of Bungay and on the outskirts of Lowestoft. It would appear more logical to journey from Carlton Colville to Bungay and then on to Bury St Edmunds. The other Carlton is now known as Kelsale cum Carlton and is near Saxmundham in East Suffolk. In the cousre of time I will check out both parishes to see if I can track them down.
A couple of other points to mention - Richard Fakes born 1751 married Henrietta Bray and their son James (born 1795) married Elizabeth Pearsons.
Briefly my line then follows through their son John (baptised 1826)and described as a hawker who married Agnes Cutmore.
Their child Levi Cutmore Feakes married Lydia Sykes at Stowmarket.Levi was a railway worker all his life and spent many years in teh signal box at Witham Essex.
They had three children, the youngest Douglas William Feakes was my grandfather and he served with the Royal Artillery in India. He married Alice Florence Dalton and became a grocer by trade.
Their only son Ronald Douglas Feakes married my mother Eileen West in 1945. I was born in 1946. They were divorced later and had no contact with my father until the 1980's when we established a real bond as we tried to make up for the lost years. He was a driving instructor for 33 years.
I was a railwayman for 36 years ending as Office Manager at the Ipswich Travel Centre. I now work for the Suffolk Record Office (an invaluable asset to family historians in Suffolk!) I am married to Ann nee Roberts. We have two daughters, Hayley Amanda (21) and Donna Louise (19).
That's my lineage in a nutshell.
Like you I am interested in tracking down the elusive Robert issue of Thomas...
