Helen: I would suggest you not be too too concerned about exact dates of birth. The norm back then was when a child was born soon there after they were baptized ie 3 - 10 days after birth. The priest would then record the information in the parrish church's official records and post the information on to Dublin for governmental record keeping. Now the date of birth was then recorded in Dublin as the date it was recorded in their "official record books" not the actual the date child was born!! As an example my grandmother wasbaptized in Spiddal, Galway on October 30, 1873 (obviously she had already been born at that point) yet ALL official governmental records show her date of birth as December 8, 1873. This is not at all unusual as I have seen and/or been told of atleast 4 other examples ... so it's like the game of horse shoes ... coming close is good enough.
