Felan (or Phelan) from Ireland
John Felan was born in the parish of Killeavy, Co Armagh. He enlisted into the army joining the 10th Regiment of Foot on the 22nd September 1823. Age said to be 18. He was discharged on the 11th June 1847 at the rank of Sergeant. He served in Portugal, Ionion Islands and India. During his service he was in the Battle of Sobraon and the occupation of Lahore. (The battle was so notable that Queen Victoria authorised the Regiment to bear the words "Sobraon" on their colours. Sobraon Day is commemorated by the Regiment every year.)
John married Charlotte Marsden on the 22 August 1836 in Corfu (Ionion Islands). I only know of one child - a son born around 1837.
I would welcome any information which may be connected to the above
