Sue,
You are right - I'm getting my John's mixed up! The John Feneron born in 1879 was my great grandfather. So that makes us cousins of sorts! You say that his father, John, was born in 1849, but I have never been able to trace his birth, or death for that matter. However, his father Patrick, died in 1849 of cholera, during the second of the 3 great cholera epidemics to hit the East End in the middle of the 19th century. I have his death certificate. If you send your home address to [email protected], I'll copy some stuff up which will be of interest, including copies from the Poplar parish register (St. Mary's and St. Joseph's) of birth and marriage entries.
My grandmother Johanna Morris nee Feneron was born in 1909, and lived most of her life in Limehouse. I also lived there until 1966. My dad followed in the footsteps of John and John Feneron by becoming a stevedore in the docks - in fact, he only got into the job because his granddad had been a stevedore.
What happened to George? Did he stay in the East End?
Anyway, I'm rambling. I look forward to hearing from you.
Peter
