Hi Bob I am Barry T. Gaffey from Boston, Massachusetts who is trying to trace back our ancestry back to the Fernald's.
My Parents are John Andrew Gaffey and Helen Fernald Gaffey(Barry)(b.sep 19 1920) is maiden.
My mother's Helen F Barry parents were Thomas Francis Barry (b.dec 22 1883)and Helen A. Barry(Fernald)(b.aug 3 1885) . Helen A. also adopted John Fernald whose adopted name became John Barry.
My Grandmother Helen A. (b.aug 3 1885) was 1 of 4 siblings annie fernald(b.jul 5 1883), alonzo fernald(b.oct 23 1888) and James(b. abt. 188?)Fernald, whose parents were Alonzo Fernald and Catherine Boyle (m. dec 2 1879). I am a little lost after this as Alonzo(b. I think abt mar 8 1843) parents areaccording to c.ldsThomas Fernald and Delia Fernald(crushing)(b.1844)but I think Alfred Fernald and Mary N. makes more sense as he is buried in Holy Cross in Malden mass.and Catie Boyle's parentare Anthony Boyle and Catherine. I have been trying to make the connection with my cousins the Spinney's to the Fernald's line and have gotten stuck there as well. Percy A.Spinney (b.jul 28 1901)and GertrudeC. Spinney(Thompson)aka catherine gertrude(b.aug 15 1903) (m. sep 20 1924). Again according to c.lds Percy A. Spinney parents Thomas Leonard Spinney(b.sep 17 1867) and Winnifred Jane Schofield(b.oct 7 1870). the only connection I seem to be able to draw is a Thompson married a Fernald Unsure here and there were other cousins called the Remillard's Not sure of this spelling but best guess.
I have only be researching for a month or so I enjoy it But the dead ends can haunt you!!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I would like to substantiate my findings and back it up with records from thestate archives. I am not sure lds is all that accurate.
