The information on my line can be found on the Leonard Forum. My records are 1. Michael Leonhardt Katzenbach Germany. 2. Valentine & Elizabeth Wallacher Leonhardt came to America on the Neptune from Rotterdam, Thomas Wilkerson, Master on Oct.25, 1756.
According to the Davidson County (NC) Heritage book, the name LEONARD comes from the German version LEONHARDT. A VALENTIN LEONHARDT, born 13 Oct 1718 in Katzenbach Germany is now spelled as VALENTINE LEONARD. VALENTIN emigrated to present day Davidson Co NC where he is reported to have built in the mid-eighteenth century a two story house, 30 by 40 feet, made of immense logs, with 12" by 14" ceiling beams "hewn with a broad axe and chamfered lower edges. There was a cellar under the west end of the house walled with large rough stones. The cellar was entered on the south side by a heavy slanting door. There was a large chimney near the middle of the house with a fireplace on either side. The fireplace was large enough to handle wood eight feet long (North Carolina Architecture by Catherine W. Bisher, page 33).
