I'm a beginner to genealogy and I was wondering if you fine folks could help me out. I'm researching my Dad's line, and I can't find anything on this one ancestor named James Ferris. I'm using Family Search because I'm a freelance writer and until I find a stable, full-time job I can't sign up for Ancestry.com just yet.
Anyway, if anyone has any information on this particular James Ferris, if you could email me, that would be great. Here's what I know about him:
-He had at least four sons:James Ferris Jr (b. 1807?), John W. Ferris( b. 1808?), Christopher Boyd Ferris (born 1814/1815), and William Ferris (b.1816). -James Ferris doesn't appear in the 1790 US Census, but shows up in the 1800 census. -He was a cooper, and my friend who is helping me out when she has free time pulled up some data; we believe he lived at 79 Adams Street and his cooper business was at 124 Furman Street. -He had a partnership with a man named Thomas Boyd, but that dissolved in 1805. -Christopher Boyd Ferris (my great-great-great grandfather) wrote on the 1880s census that both his parents were from Ireland. -Christopher, his wife, and children are buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. No idea if his father is though.
Anyway, if someone knows any information on James Ferris and his wife and could send me a message, I'd be thrilled. I'm trying to find out where my Dad's family comes from in Ireland and it would mean the world to me if I could find that out. It's been frustrating, trying to get around this brick wall but I figured it was worth a shot to post on here.
