They are two different names. George Featherlin (that is how he spelled it), was of German background, his father was Jacob Fetterlin (sometimes spelled Fetterling). The Featheringill (Featheringale) name is English and the two names would have sounded different back in those days (1700-1800s). Fetterling would have had a hard T sound-- Featheringill would have had the soft "th" sound as in "feather"George Featheringill lived in northern Shenandoah County around present day Lebanon Church. That is where John Bly, father of Isaac lived and I find George Featheringill and John and Isaac Bly at several estate sales in the area.Isaac and Catherine moved across the mountain into Hardy County, by 1820.George Fetterling lived near Toms Brook VA.His wife, Sarah, was a cousin of Isaac Bly, who married Catherine Featheringill.
