French origin of Fewell name

I have been told that "Fewel" is Norman French and that one theory is that Fewel(l) stood for leaves in French, spelled fouaille.English references have indicated "fewell" as being combustible fuels, possibly whale oil.Middle English, the French word became feuel or fewel, the second which was commonly used in the 18th century. One theory is that the name came from France, probably with the Norman conquest. The people named Fewell probably came from the woods.
E-mail me some time in you are looking for further genealogy on the Fewell's southern line.My family originated in the Virginia, North and South Carolina states, moving to Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma and I am guessing there were some cousins along the way that moved to Arkansas and Texas, and most likely on westward.
