The birth date for your Addison FIDDLER says that he is the five year old Adison in Hastings, Oswego Co., NY 1860 census. As far as I know, no one else in the family went to California.
His father was Godfrey FIDDLER, age 38 (in 1860), occupation cooper, born in NY.His mother is Adelia, age 29, also born in NY.He had two sisters:Antoinette, age 8 and Floretta, age 1; he had one brother: Barney, age 3.The family is the same in the 1870 census, except for the addition of a daughter, Adelia, age 1.
In 1850 thru 1880 census, Godfrey lives next door to John FIDDLER.Four years older, John probably is a brother. In 1860 John's wife is not listed, and his household lists eight children.
There are no FIDDLERs (FIDLER) listed in the Oswego Co, NY 1840 census. So where did they come from?My husband's gggrandmother was Nancy FIDDLER, married Jonathan C. JOHNSTON.From her age (b. 1 Nov. 1798 which was on her tombstone in Mallory Cemetery) she was probably the aunt of Godfrey and John FIDDLER.The 1855 NYS census gives her birthplace in Schoharie Co., NY.Would like to trace these ancestors further back.Do you have any ideas?
