I have a family mystery involving the name Jane Fielding/Fielden and thought that I would post it here. My gg-grandfather was John F. Price who, if census records can be believed, was born about 1838 in Kentucky (county unknown). The first real proof I have of his existence is a record of his marriage to Serena Jane Dunnegan on 9 June 1861 in Ozark County, Missouri. I have been unable to trace John's ancestry previous to his marriage with one possible exception. On the 1860 census of Ozark County, Missouri there is a Jane Fielden listed as head of household with the following family make up; Family #90Household #90 Falling Spring, Ozark County, Missouri Jane Fielden39 FWhitefarmKY John F.19 MWhiteKY William L.4 MWhiteMO I believe, but have not proven beyond doubt , that this lady is John F. Price's mother. Jane Fielding bought 240 acres in Wayne County, Missouri on 1 September 1859. The same day Alfred J. Dunnegan recieved 40 acres in the same township. This places these families in close proximity. In the 1860 Census Jane Fielden (SP) born in Kentucky is ennumerated next to the Samuel Dunnegan family in Ozark County, Missouri. She is listed as head of household with two sons, John F. and William. The difference in the ages of the boys suggests a second marriage to an unknown Fielding. Samuel is the brother of Alfred J. Dunnegan and of Serena (Cena) Jane Dunnegan who married John F. Price in Ozark County, Missouri on 9 June 1861. Once again the two families are living close to each other.John and Sena named their first daughter Sarah Jane which is , I believe, a combination of the names of her grandmothers. On the 1870 Census John and Sena were living in Iron County, Missouri near one of Sena's sisters (Sarah) and her husband William Risenhoover. Also ennumerated nearby was a Jane Roberts born in Kentucky and of the correct age to be the former Jane Fielding. The Roberts name suggests a third marriage. There is a son, James, in Jane's household born in about 1865. On the 1880 Census John and Sena are living in Ozark County, Missouri again. There is a man named Monroe living with the family and his relationship to John is listed as BROTHER.
I believe that Jane (maiden name unknown) was married to an unknown Price in Kentuckywhere John was born. Something happened to Mister Price and she, Jane, married a man named Fielding, probably in Kentucky or Tennessee. In 1859 Jane Fielding obtained land in Wayne County, Missouri near some of the Dunnegan Family and the families became aquainted. It is possible the families were aquainted before this time. For some reason Jane moved to Ozark County, Missouri and in 1860 was living near Samuel Dunnegan, brother of Alfred and Serena. In 1870 Jane Roberts was living near John and Sena in Iron County, Missouri with her son. Once again she is head of household. I believe that the Monroe living with John and Sena in 1880 was James Monroe Roberts son of Jane and an unknown Roberts, and a half brother to John. I would welcome any and all information and opinions on this family. Thank You, Norman Price
