Hiram Fikes, b. 15 Feb. 1827 in SC; d. 20 Oct.1903 and bur at Hardens Chapel Cemetery, 3 miles S of Fulton, Itawamba Co, MS; m. Perry Co. AL 4 Dec 1851 to Mary Catherine "Polly" LaGrone, b. 18 Dec 1834; d. 20 Feb 1925 and bur. Hardens Chapel; dau of John LaGrone and Catherine Rhinehart.
Polly's maternal grandparents were Houseals, and from a land grant to Capt. Wm. Frederick Houseal for his Rev. War service, land in Perry Co. AL was settled by John Wm. Adam LaGrone and his wife, Mary Magadaline Houseal, dau. of Wm. Frederick.
Hiram was the son of John Fike(s) from SC who bought land in Perry Co. AL on 16 Dec. 1828 and 6 Jan 1836; John was first listed in AL in 1840 Perry Co. census.
In 1860, Hiram and Polly had 4 children listed on census records and were still in Perry Co. AL; by 1870, they had 4 girls and 3 boys; Martha, Robert, John, Matilda, Ramsey, Sarah, and Mary Susan.
Between 1870 & 1880, Hiram had moved his family to Marion Co. AL and later to Itawamba Co. MS.By then, 3 girls, Caldonia, Samantha and Alis as well as 1 boy, James Edward had been added to this family.Martha, Sarah, and an infant, Hiram Calloway had died.Robert, John and Matilda were no longer listed in Hiram's household in 1880.
Hiram Fikes was the Son of John Fikes b. 1799/1800 in Lexington Co., SC, wife's name unknown.I have names of Hiram's siblings also.John Fikes was the son of George Fikes born 1777 and his wife Catherine.Have more on them, also
