Just thought I would let you know that Tobias File eventually left Rowan Co. and ended his life in Bond County, Ilabout 1894.He married at least three times. The only child I have recorded is a son Jacob. The Files run in my grandmother's side of my family tree. There is quite an interesting tale of how they left Cabarrus Co,NC to Tennessee. When the crops to feed the cattle were destroyed by lightning and subsequent fire, the sons (including Tobias)built rafts/barges and carried the cattle to New Orleans to be sold. It is said on the way back home they heard about the availability of good land in IL.,held a family council and made the move to Bond Co. This was around 1816-1817.They settled at Shoal Creek. Henry (Tobias's father) deeded 50 acres for File Cemetary and was the first person buried there in 1836. File history is very deep and researched in the Bond County area. Three books exist on File History in the Greenville Public Library. My great-grandmother was the daughter of John Nelson, who was a step-brother to Tobias. Same father, different mothers.Feel free to contact me with any guestions. Will help if I can.
