For those of us trying to research the Filipiaks/Philipaks, it is my understanding through our own family, that several of the Philipak brothers came over together. My husbands father, Emil Philipak used to tell us that they were Polish, and he did speak some Polish. He was 3 when they arrived. He had to be held constantly aboard ship, because "babes" in arms came at a reduced price. He was the youngest of five, at that time and remembered that his mother would not put him down to walk, which did not sit well with a healthy little 3 year old.
I have found Philipaks in Vienna, (many pages in the phone book), in Chicago, Ohio, and several on the upper east coast, just the name, not the history. When searching further, I did find many Philipaks who came over on the same ship, even one including a Josef, but could not tie them together.
I would like to know if anyone ever heard whether these brothers were ever tied together, ever contacted one another..I cannot imagine them coming to America and not keeping in contact.
