I am Carol Finin Olsen. My father's grandfather was Carroll Finin (b. 1850 in Sligo, d. 1900 in Decatur Il. He came to Buffalo NY around 1867 with his parents, John Finin and (I can't remember his wife's name) and siblings John, Catherine, and Winifred. All the children ended up in Decatur IL in the 1880s, so I think that the parents may have died in Buffalo. I haven't found them in either Buffalo or on ship's passenger lists. Our family has always spelled the name as FININ, however, I think that they may be related to those that spell their name FINAN. An oral story handed down was that the name "Carroll" as a first name was continued in every generation. I have looked up the name FININ, there may be only 20 people in the U.S. with the last name of FININ. I know that they came from Sligo, where the name FINAN is found more often than in other places in Ireland. I would appreciate any information. Thanks.
