Hello I am interested in this as it is possible that this is the same person as my own great grandfather. I have a birth certificate of my grandfather Edward Plommer Findlay, registered in Southsea (Portsmouth) in 1888, with father's name given as William Anderson Findlay.I also have correspondence and testimonials relating to William Findlay, and some evidence that he was educated at St Andrews University and taught at Schools in Scotland, then worked as a mathematics tutor in South of England. He also wrote and published poetry - I have a copy of a collection, published in Hamilton. Do you think that the child Edward that you are asking about may be the same as on the birth certificate, i.e. my grandfather? I cam across this posting quite by chance - I am not doing a family tree or any genealogical research, but obviously it would be interesting to know more about the other member of the family if this is indeed the same man.
